Clerk: Colin Perrin
Asa is a specialist chancery/commercial practitioner and one of the founder members of 23ES Commercial. He undertakes work in all aspects of those fields, but with particular specialism in the areas of banking, company, insolvency, landlord and tenant, professional negligence, real property, and general commercial litigation.
He has a thriving contentious practice far beyond his level of call. He appears regularly in the High Court, County Court, First-Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) and indeed the Magistrates’ Courts, dealing exclusively with business rates matters.
Asa is retained by and frequently acts for government departments, many of the UK’s largest banking and financial institutions; insolvency practitioners; a variety of professional landlords and managing agents; in addition to premiership football clubs, rugby clubs and a variety of media and sporting personalities.
He has acted for lenders in a number of multi-million pound claims against borrowers and guarantors, including claims worth in excess of £50m. As such, he is well placed to deal with high value banking litigation and the ensuing enforcement proceedings.
Much of his practice is in the field of insolvency both corporate and personal and he frequently appears in the High Court and County Court in a range of company law and bankruptcy matters. Recent matters have included dealing with claims for breach of directors’ duties/misfeasance worth between £500k and £1m, and a 5-day trial in the Mercantile Court in London involving claims under section 423 of the Insolvency Act 1986 and assets held by Panamanian Foundations.
He is particularly well versed in the field of service charge recovery, regularly appearing in the County Court and First-Tier Tribunal on behalf of landlords and managing agents seeking recovery of arrears and contemplating forfeiture. Property disputes remain a strong part of his practice.
Other recent significant cases have included: advising on multi-million pound deceit claims against stockbrokers, appearing in contentious probate proceedings arising from the ‘lady in the lake’ killing, advising on complex conflict of laws issues concerning the characteristic performance of cross-border loans and appearing in a defamation appeal in the High Court.

- investment and profit distribution agreement relating to the Cannes Film Festival 2015;
- shareholders’ agreement for a modelling agency;
- statutorily required service charge documentation for professional landlords.
